One of Central America’s First Business Park Is Coming
to Honduras
Honduras could become a hot spot for development in Central
America when one of the region’s first Class A, intelligent,
sustainable business park opens for business next year.
Beginning in the second quarter of 2009, the Altia Business Park will offer service sector companies
customized office space in pre-wired, “green” buildings.
Grupo Karim’s, a leading developer in Honduras, decided to build the
technology park in Honduras to take advantage of the country’s
potential for developing the service sector.
Honduran bilingual schools will ensure companies in the service
industry a continual supply of young, articulate workers who speak
and read Spanish and English. Honduras has more bilingual schools
per capita than any other Central American country, including Costa
Rica and Panama, the two most popular call center destinations in
the region.
Businesses that settle in Altia Business Park in San Pedro Sula will be
poised to recruit graduates from the five universities located in
Honduras’ second largest city and industrial capital. The park should be especially attractive to call centers, back office, and telemarketing
operations and to companies seeking regional corporate base offices.
Ruben Sorto, Marketing and New Project Development Corporate
Director of Grupo Karim’s, says the recent decision by the Honduran
government to allow call centers inside free zones provides another
advantage for companies looking to invest there.
“Honduras has huge potential in the coming years. We are just trying
to align our business with that,” he says.
The park will make starting a business in Honduras easier, according
to Sorto, since it will provide companies with all the necessary
communications infrastructure in one place, including an optical fiber
network for high-speed data transmission, secure-building access,
and customized office space.
Situated on five hectares, Altia initially will consist of three, 12-story
office towers and a clinic, grocery store, pharmacy, library, gym, food
market, restaurants, and ample parking. The site has room for
expansion and eventually will include a heliport.
